I love Pinterest! It’s my one guilty pleasure.
And the section I spend the most time viewing is called Quilted Bliss.
Even if you don’t quilt, have never quilted, will never quilt, these
pages hold some of the most beautiful handmade creations you’ll ever
see. It is a feast for the eyes and comfort for the soul.
This unique American art form has endured from generation to
generation. Sadly, however, it is dying off. Fewer and fewer young
people are sewing these days. And the public school system has all but
abandoned this Home Ec curriculum.
It’s so much simpler and easier to go to Walmart and buy some
ready-made cheap comforter stamped “Made in China” than produce a
one-of-a-kind hand crafted masterpiece. Our quilting heritage is
eroding.
All the more reason to appreciate the efforts of the artisans pinned on the Quilted Bliss pages of Pinterest. These creations are truly a labor of love.
Enjoy!

Owner
A recent question posted at one of my favorite sites, Answerbag, asked, “Is it better to own or rent a home? Why?” Is it better to be a renter or an owner?
My answer: Owner.
Why? One word: Equity.
Simply stated, equity is amount of profit a home owner builds over time. This is achieved in two ways. As you pay your mortgage, your debt load decreases by a certain amount. That amount is rolled into the value of the house. So the more you pay off on your loan, the more money you will be able to keep if and when you sell that house.
The other way equity is built is through the appreciation of the house and land. In other words, the physical property increases in value over time. That increased amount of money is also profit in your pocket if and when you decide to sell your house.
So the faster you pay off your mortgage and the longer you hang on to your house and property, the more equity you build and the greater your total wealth.
When you rent, you build no equity. Zero! Your landlord builds equity, but none of that is shared with you.
I’ve been a renter. Sometimes in your life it cannot be helped. Everyone has to start somewhere and that usually involves renting. But your goal should always be to purchase a home. Building equity is a great way to ensure the financial stability and security of your future.

Candy
Candy is out of my life forever! After years of being over-weight
and feeling miserable, I finally discovered what was making my life a
living Hell. Candy.
Candy was ruining my life. It made me fat and weak. So I eliminated it. And guess what? I lost weight and gained energy. My blood pressure dropped. I require less sleep now. And those gastric intestinal problems I suffered with for a long time are gone.
Candy is just plain evil. I used to have what I thought was a little bit of chocolate every day as my “drug” of choice. I thought I needed it to get through my hectic day. I was wrong.
Candy is a thief. It pretends to be your friend, but in reality it robs you of your life. It steals time away from you and worse of all from your family.
Candy is no damned good. It is unhealthy and unnecessary. And after a few weeks of deprivation, I didn’t miss it at all. In fact, I was glad it was gone. The cost both physically and emotionally was too high. My life is my own again.
Candy is now my enemy. And by treating it as such, I am at peace with myself and my new body. I’ve drop several dress sizes in the first few months and I’m on my way to obtaining my ideal weight goal. Even my husband has noticed the change. That makes me happiest of all.

Norris
Rejoice! Chuck Norris returns to the big screen in The Expendables 2!
My two grown boys are huge fans of Walker, Texas Ranger. My eldest is even considering joining the Texas Rangers when he’s done with college. So they are very excited to see their boyhood hero return to theaters on August 17th, 2012.
The movie also stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. But mostly Chuck Norris. Yay!

Abuses Power
I’m a big fan of Cracked!
As a former World History teacher, I can appreciate their attention to
facts. This article is one that many of my past students have sent me
and I thought I would pass it along. Partly for the humor, but mostly
to stop people from sending me this link. I got it already!
Please do not take offense to the linked article. Abuse at the hands of another is no laughing matter. We’ve all been there. Perhaps it was an abusive parent or co-worker or employer. The best thing anyone could do in a situation like that is get far away as fast as you can. We all deserve better.
